CLEARWATER — Robinson blew by the Clearwater Tornadoes 34-6 in a preseason tilt Friday, led by senior Zain Gilmore and a dominating passing attack.
After a scoreless first quarter, Gilmore started the touchdown barrage by finding Jahrvis Davenport for a 77-yard bomb early in the second quarter. The Knights extended their lead to 13-0 with a methodical drive to end the half, capped by a 9-yard pass from Gilmore to Robert Priester. Gilmore finished 10-of-16 for 200 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.
Meanwhile, the Tornadoes' offensive line struggled to protect sophomore Jordan Leston. The Knights' defense swarmed Leston, recording seven sacks and forcing him to scramble on almost every dropback.
The rout was on when Robinson opened the second half with an 11-play, 74-yard drive ending in a 1-yard plunge by sophomore Aivery Foster.
After two more scores extended the lead to 34-0, Leston orchestrated a Clearwater scoring drive with time running out in the third quarter. He found Adam Harris for the Tornadoes' only touchdown.
