Preseason football: St. Petersburg 42, Wiregrass Ranch 17

ST. PETERSBURG — The Green Devils struck through the air and on the ground Friday, steam rolling Wiregrass Ranch 42-17 in preseason play.

St. Petersburg scored early after a long pass from David Jones to Marquel Davis set up a 1-yard Rashad Lewis touchdown plunge. Davis finished with three receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. But the Bulls responded with a short scoring drive, taking the lead 7-6 just over a minute later on a Matt Terry goal-line run.

The Green Devils refused to trail for long. On the ensuing kickoff, Stevie Murph took advantage of an opening, breaking two tackles and burning 90 yards to the end zone. After giving up a Wiregrass field goal, St. Petersburg scored three consecutive touchdowns, including a blocked punt by Cody Pogorelc that he picked up and returned 31 yards to paydirt.

Bulls quarterback James Tringali opened 4 of 5 passing but finished 15-of-35 with a touchdown and interception each in junk time.
