Eastside 6, Land O'Lakes 0
Spring game-breakers: Both teams played in a defensive battle that lasted almost the entire game until the 2:17 mark of the fourth quarter. That's when Eastside quarterback KJ Minter scored on a 5-yard touchdown run. The Gators, however, denied the Rams on the two-point conversion. Minter's 38-yard scamper from the 35 to the Gators' 27 led to the eventual winning score. …The Gators had one more chance, but Eastside came up with three sacks on quarterback Spencer Childress to seal the victory. Childress was 8-out-19 for 63 yards. His biggest completions were two for 13 yards. …The Gators' Xavier Arroyo had a big tackle on defense on a third and 1 with Eastside driving on its 46 in the first quarter. With the Rams trying to put points on the board near the end of the first half, Minter's pass was broken up by Justin Kren, then Tommy Farmer shot through the gap and sacked Minter for a 12-yard loss to prevent a score.
Did you know? The Gator defense was stout much of the game, only allowing Eastside 147 total yards. The Gators were able to pressure and hurry Minter into throws that resulted in him only completing 6-of-23 for 29 yards. …The Gators outgained the Rams 73-46 in the first half. The Rams allowed minus-7 yards on the ground, mostly due to 12 negative-yardage plays for the Gators. …The Gators missed a 50-yard field-goal attempt in the third.
Audible: "We finally got out of the county, and Eastside was a great opponent for us tonight. We definitely made positive strides, and we balled. We made some mistakes that cost us, but we'll get back and watch film and get into the weight room. And the team showed composure tonight, which we haven't had in a long time." — Land O'Lakes coach Brian Wachtel
