Spring football game: Clearwater Central Catholic 40, Wildwood 20

At Wildwood

John Davis' second stint at CCC is off to a strong start after Thursday's spring win.

Justin Goodloe scored three times. Sakai Wilson rushed for a touchdown and intercepted a pass. George Ohleyer caught a 30-yard touchdown from Nick Newton, and Blake Mayregaard kicked field goals of 37 and 43 yards.

The production was due in large part to the line, an area of concern because of depth. The numbers took a hit when starting center Ian Ryan went down with an ankle injury on the first play.

"They worked their tails off," Davis said.

Meanwhile, the defense forced three turnovers and allowed just two touchdowns, both when most starters were out.

"We just had guys flying to the ball," said Davis, who previous coached CCC from 1994-2001. "We still have a long way to go, but we made great strides this spring. I think we have a chance to be pretty good."
