Tarpon Springs 41, River Ridge 21

TARPON SPRINGS — Tarpon Springs recorded first downs on its first four offensive plays and set the tone in a 41-21 victory over River Ridge on Friday.

Spongers receiver Drew Kier caught three passes in that opening four-play scoring drive, including a 15-yard touchdown catch. Marcelle Lewis added a 25-yard touchdown run later in quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Tarpon Springs dominated the quarter, recording eight first downs, allowing the Royal Knights only one first down and allowing minus-6 yards of offense overall.

The Royal Knights did fight back and trailed only 21-14 at the half.

"We just took our foot off the gas pedal," said Kier, who finished with five receptions for 57 yards.

Josiah Fisk had a 91-yard kickoff return for the Spongers (3-0). River Ridge (0-4) quarterback Kenny Toce, who did not start the game, had three rushing touchdowns.
