Tarpon Springs: Spring football capsule

Tarpon Springs

Coach: George Kotis (third season, 11-9)

Last season: 6-4

District: 4A-8 (Central, Land O'Lakes, Ridgewood, River Ridge, Springstead)

Key losses: TE Brian Bowie, DE Donnel Engram, DT Dom Ingargiola, WR Beau Taylor

Who's back: LB Stimati Damalos, DB Josian Fisk, DB Drew Kier, RB Marcelle Lewis, RB Marcus Nemeth, QB Danny Reyes, LB Richard Austin Seifried, S Miles Toli, WR Bobby Vavlas, DE Alonzo Williams, OT Ben Wright

What's new: The offense is in good hands with Reyes returning, and he has good receiving options with wideouts Kier and Vavlas. … Lewis will start at tailback, but Nemeth, a fullback/tailback who runs a 4.6 40-yard dash, also will get a number of carries. … At free safety, Toli led the team in tackles and had five interceptions last year.

Audibles: "This is a group with high character. … We stress academics, and we've got eight starters with a 4.0 GPA or higher. Seventeen of them are in the National Honor Society." — Kotis

Did you know?: Kotis said Kier, Reyes, Toli, Vavlas and Wright, all seniors, could receive Division I scholarships, though none have an offer yet.
