GAINESVILLE — Florida coach Jim McElwain is adding another former Alabama assistant to his staff.
Michigan offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will take the same job with Florida.
McElwain and Nussmeier are both former Alabama offensive coordinators. The two also worked together at Michigan State from 2003-05 as quarterbacks coach and associate head coach, respectively.
Nussmeier was the Tide's offensive coordinator for two years before joining Michigan's staff for the 2014 season. He took over at Alabama in 2012 after McElwain left to become coach at Colorado State. In Nussmeier's first season in charge of the offense, the Tide went 13-1 and won the SEC and the BCS national championship.
Nussmeier will inherit a Florida offense that ranked No. 91 in the nation this season.
McElwain was hired Dec. 4, but this will be just his second staff hire. Last week he hired former Mississippi State defensive coordinator Geoff Collins. As a guest on 620-AM on Monday, McElwain explained he has been focused on recruiting but isn't neglecting staff hires.
"We're in the process of putting it together," he said. "We've got guys that are currently in major bowl games that will probably jump on board, and then some guys that maybe have an NFL game or maybe even some playoff games left. We're being patient."
