SEMINOLE — With each tee shot, St. Petersburg's Meredith Kiernan hit golf balls that settled safely in the fairway. That made putting for par easier during Tuesday's Class 3A, District 12 girls tournament at Seminole Lake Country Club.

That consistency helped Kiernan win individual honors with 74. It was the best round of golf for the sophomore since she picked up the sport nearly a decade ago. Better still, it came despite having just one birdie.

"This was a really big day," Kiernan said. "I felt like I was just really consistent. I was hitting a lot of greens and making a lot of par putts."

Kiernan's 74 was five strokes ahead of teammate Kayla Shelton, who finished second. They led the Green Devils, who shot 327 to win the team title.

East Lake (427) and Palm Harbor University (431) finished second and third, respectively, and automatically qualified for next week's region tournament.

Seminole's Alyssa Lamoureux (76) and Rachel Strobhar (106) and Countryside's Anna-Sophie Breitkreuz (85) qualified as individuals.
