NORTON, Mass. — One big putt for Rickie Fowler. One big mistake for Henrik Stenson.

That was the difference Monday as Fowler rallied from a two-shot deficit with five holes left, making a 40-foot birdie on No. 14 and playing flawlessly the rest of the way for 3-under 68 and a one-shot victory in the Deutsche Bank Championship, the second of four FedEx Cup events.

Fowler moved to No. 5 in the world rankings, assuring a spot among the top five players in the FedEx Cup finale and a shot at the $10 million prize in the Tour Championship, Sept. 24-27.

"It's pretty special to fight it out like that," Fowler said.

Stenson, who shot 70, was a runnerup for the second straight week.

He led by three after a birdie on No. 10 and never trailed until his tee shot on the par-3 16th came up short, bounced off the front of the green and into the water. That led to double bogey.

Stenson had a 15-foot birdie on No. 18 to force a tie, but it slid by on the right.

"Making double there was really a killer," Stenson said.

Fowler (15-under 269) and moved to No. 3 in the FedEx Cup behind Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, with Stenson No. 4.

Hunter Mahan, the only player who has never missed a FedEx Cup event since the playoffs began in 2007, kept his streak going with 70 to tie for fourth at 276. He rose from No. 91 to No. 52 in the FedEx Cup as the top 70 advanced to the BMW Championship, Sept. 17-20.
