Watson, Cink in British Open playoff

TURNBERRY, Scotland —Tom Watson bogeyed the 18th hole Sunday to fall into a tie with fellow-American Stewart Cink and push the British Open to a four-hole playoff.

Watson, 59, had birdied the 17th hole to forge a one-shot lead as he tried to become the oldest golfer to win a major championship.

Watson is a five-time Open champion who would easily be the oldest golfer ever to win a major. Julius Boros was 48 when he captured the 1968 PGA Championship.
