Saladino Tournament: Day 2 at Jefferson

Scores

Riverview 4, Jefferson 3

Hillsborough 10, Blake 3

Wharton 16, Spoto 0

Sickles 3, Newsome 1

Pitchers of the day

Riverview got some quality late innings from Andrew Martinez. Martinez came in with Riverview (5-3) up 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning with two outs. In a jam with runners on first and second, Martinez got the necessary flyball to get out of the frame unscathed. The right-hander gave the Sharks (5-3) two more innings, striking out three batters, though none was bigger than the final out. With the tying run and go ahead on base, Martinez was able to shut the door on any Jefferson (6-2) comeback attempt, striking out Jake Coleman to end the game.  … Hillsborough (2-6) was led by a solid performance from freshman Brady Burgess, who faced 25 batters and struck out three and allowed three earned runs.

Did you know?

The Terriers scored 10 runs off of just six hits and didn't commit any errors .

Dugout chatter

"(Martinez) did a great job coming in behind Reagen (Jorgensen)," Riverview coach Bill Leiby said. "He's getting better each and every time out, and I think he's starting to build on the confidence."

"We were able to get three or four hits there in the early going," Hillsborough coach Kenny White said. "I think we were ultimately able to take advantage of some errors and be able to capitalize on them."
