Syracuse quarterback Rex Culpepper, a former standout at Plant, was diagnosed with testicular cancer that will require more than two months of chemotherapy.

Culpepper broke the news on his Instagram account.

The cancer was discovered March 18. Culpepper had surgery the following day. It has spread to his lymph nodes and abdomen, requiring chemotherapy according to Culpepper's Instagram post.

"The good news is, my situation is very treatable," Culpepper wrote on Instagram. "I will have to undergo an extensive, 10-week chemotherapy cycle both in Tampa and in Syracuse. To those that have reached out, I thank you, your support has been paramount. I am deeply thankful to my family, close friends and teammates as well, because no doubt I'll be leaning on you through this."

Culpepper's father is former Florida Gator and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Brad Culpepper.  Rex's brother is Judge Culpepper, who also played for the Panthers and is going to Penn State.

Rex was sidelined his senior season at Plant after tearing his ACL during a 7-on-7 tournament. He had already committed to Syracuse at the time and the school stuck by him.
