The Florida High School Athletic Association has reduced Northside Christian's postseason football ban to one year, according to NCS athletic director Raul Hernandez.

The FHSAA made the decision after a Friday morning hearing in Gainesville with Hernandez, head coach Mike Alstott and high school principal Brandon Elam.

Originally, the Mustangs (2-5) were slapped with a three-year ban and a $2,302 fine for forfeiting a Sept. 7 game at Lakeland Victory Christian. Northside Christian did not dispute the fine but did appeal the postseason ban.

The FHSAA has cracked down on forfeits, which negatively impact teams under the second-year playoff point system. Teams must play at least eight regular-season games to be eligible for the postseason, so every game really does count.

According to Hernandez, the school had been trying to get out of its game against Victory Christian since April to give Victory time to find a replacement.

The ban will only be for this season.
