Special day

Using the oversized scissors. That is what Lightning captain Vinny Lecavalier said was most fun about the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new cancer center at St. Petersburg's All Children's Hospital. Most important, though, was that the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders Center finally was open. Lecavalier, through his foundation, made a $3 million commitment to the project. "It was great," Lecavalier said of Tuesday's ceremony. "It's a pretty good feeling. But at the end of it, it's what All Children's did. It's just incredible." All Children's Hospital is now the largest children's cancer center in the Southeast and has the second-largest sickle cell program in Florida. "To be part of that is great," Lecavalier said.

Quote to note

"He's done more than expected. Does he make mistakes? Yeah. But he's going to be (a great) defenseman in this league."

Wary of the flu (shots)

Vaccinations for swine flu were available to the Lightning, but not all the players took part. Matt Walker said no thanks, as did fellow defensemen David Hale and Andrej Meszaros.

"There isn't enough known about the injection itself, for me," Walker said. "To inject something into my body, I want to make sure what's going on there. I'm not sold on the research yet."

"If you're going to be sick, you're going to be sick," Meszaros said. "And I heard there are side effects from it."

Hale said he could get the shot at some point. "I want to educate myself before I make a decision," he said.

5 questions Former captain Dave Andreychuk

What do you miss about playing? I miss … practicing.

Seriously, what do you miss? Just being around the guys, more than anything else. I don't miss the games. I don't miss the training.

Still a competitor, though, right? I try to get that on the golf course with my buddies.

Do you think back to the 2004 Stanley Cup victory? Lots. The glimmer is kind of going away a little bit for everybody, but it gets brought up every once in a while.

Do you appreciate it more over time? Oh, yeah. I think everybody here in Tampa is starting to appreciate more what we all went through, not just us as players but as a community.
