Prospal excited but won't guarantee return to Lightning

OTTAWA — Vinny Prospal said he is excited about a possible third stint with the Lightning. But the left wing, whose negotiating rights the team acquired from the Flyers on Wednesday, wasn't about to say it is a slam dunk.

"Let's just wait and see what's going to happen on Tampa's part," he said Thursday by phone from his native Czech Republic.

The Lightning, which gave up a seventh-round pick in this weekend's draft, will try to sign Prospal before July 1, when he becomes a free agent and can negotiate with any team.

Prospal, traded to the Flyers at the deadline for defenseman Alex Picard, never has been shy about his love for the Tampa Bay area, where he has a home, and playing with center Vinny Lecavalier and wing Marty St. Louis.

"I'm at the stage of my career that I know what we had with Vinny and Marty, and it would be great if we could continue to do so," Prospal said. "But on the other hand, you never know what may happen."

Hopefully he won't price himself out of town this time. But by no means should they overpay him to stay.I'd love to see Ryan Malone on Vinny's line.

As he did before, he might be running for the big money. And what happened last time Vinny, you lost out on a Stanley Cup.
