Lightning makes 'honest mistake'

By Damian Cristodero, Times Staff Writer
In print: Saturday, June 28, 2008

From left, Marty St. Louis, Vinny Lecavalier, Dan Boyle and Steve Stamkos (shooting left-handed instead of right-handed) appear on a poster at the St. Pete Times Forum. The image will be changed, Lightning spokesman Bill Wickett said.

Left … errrr … right off the bat

Steve Stamkos has a right-handed shot. He signs autographs with his right hand. You'd figure those were clues to the agency the Lightning hired to put together the 47-foot tall collage of four players, including Stamkos, hanging on an outer wall of the St. Pete Times Forum. Alas, Stamkos, the No. 1 overall pick in last weekend's draft, the player being hyped as the next face of the franchise, is shown, 10 feet tall, holding his stick left-handed. "We made an honest mistake," team spokesman Bill Wickett said Friday. "It is going to be changed." Because Stamkos, shown in an action pose, had never played in a Tampa Bay uniform, Wickett said, Stamkos' head was Photoshopped on the image of another player and his No. 91 inserted.

They may want to re-think the whole poster once Boyle gets traded.

I think its called Sports reporting. Even if you thought the story was trivial, at least they covered the signing of this new and exciting player.

All this hype and publicity about an undrafted kid is ridiculous! Does anyone else find it incredibly excessive? What the hell is going on?

That would be too sensible, Ruthe. That would also assume Bill Wickett didn't have his head up his bum, per usual.

DC, This story is so silly. Please have a little more respect for we hockey purists who would like to read about the progress/news of the club and not some non-event advertising matter. Take a glance at the Trib. You might learn a few things.

Oh, don't worry. Steve is going to master the left handed shot too then all will be fine. Please live up to the hype Steve. GO BOLTS!

Who is the shadow in the foreground, Darth Vader?
by Ruthe Jun 28, 2008 7:02 PM
Why didn't they just take an action pose of him from the Sarnia Sting and photoshop a Lightning uniform on it. Anyway, isn't it too early to put his picture up? Enormous pressure being put on this kid.
