St. Pete Times Forum wall is cursed!

TAMPA — The Lightning believes a 47-foot tall ad space on the side of the St. Pete Times Forum is cursed.

Well, not really. Then again …

Mark Gullett, senior director of marketing, said never again will a player be pictured in the space at the corner of Morgan Street and Channelside Drive.

Think about it.

In 2006-07, the Lightning displayed goaltender Marc Denis, who was so bad, he was recently bought out of his contract. A recent Photoshopped picture of Steve Stamkos had to be replaced because the No. 1 draft pick was incorrectly portrayed as a left-handed shot.

The adjusted picture included defenseman Dan Boyle, who, oops, almost immediately was traded to the Sharks.

"That sign on the wall has been such a curse, we decided to have some fun with it," Gullett said.

So the current billboard features the Tampa skyline and has design elements specifically added, Gullett said, to "reverse the curse."

Gullett declined to explain but said the elements are so small, binoculars are probably needed to identify them.

"That sign ruined my last two weeks," Gullett said.

"(Owner Oren Koules) and I said, 'We have to come up with a way to make this a positive.' "

I cannot believe those of you who feel the need to blog garbage on these pages.

Seth You are correct but with Vinny and the 4 years poster we didn't make it into the playoffs! Why has no one mentioned the other wall with Brad hoisting the cup that has been up here for atleast 3 years now i think?!
by Steven Jul 17, 2008 4:43 PM
Andreychuk was put on the wall hoisting the Cup, the very same year he was told to leave the team....so that was the beginning of the curse I believe.
by Muffin Jul 17, 2008 4:43 PM
They could always use it to put up pictures of our opponents and curse them.

If the designers feel it's cursed and even took the steps to put 'good luck' charms within the new design, I hardly think the writers are "manufacturing news". Oh wait I forgot, you're all journalism experts because you can blog.

Was Andy on the wall when e won the Cup or did they put him on after when he played too long instead of retiring? And "4 years of playoff cheers" was put on for the season we didn't make the playoffs.
by Pete Jul 17, 2008 8:06 AM
yes thats true but we did go out in the first round that year and missed the playoffs the year after that. haha and Ashleigh, I think you need to go buy a sense of humor.

Lecavalier's contract wasn't a curse, but we didn't make the playoffs the fifth year. And we did win the Cup, but then Andreychuk was put on waivers and we had to change it. Maybe we shouldn't put anything in that space...

Andy (Dave Andreychuk) was on the wall and we won The Cup!!!
by Ashleigh Jul 16, 2008 7:15 PM
Seriously, that is a bit much. Get a life and focus on hockey and fixing the mistakes that Feaster created. You have a good start, but worrying about a wall and subsequently writing about it!! Gimme a break!
by Seth Jul 16, 2008 7:12 PM
Cursed!!!! Pay no mind to the fact Vincent Lecavalier was on that wall "4 years of playoff cheers'' after Denis, and I wouldn't say his $85-million dollar contract is much of a curse. More like a blessing if you ask me! Nice job of manufacturing news
