Injuries: Tampa Bay — D Jamie Heward (concussion), LW Gary Roberts (elbow), D Matt Smaby (lower body) are out. D Steve Eminger (upper body), D Paul Ranger (upper body) and F Paul Szczechura (lower body) are day to day. Philadelphia — D Derian Hatcher (knee), C Daniel Briere (groin), LW Josh Gratton (abdomen), RW Claude Giroux (concussion) and LW Jonathon Kalinski (thigh) are out.

Key stats: Flyers C Jeff Carter, below, entered Wednesday with a league-high 29 goals and was second with 129 shots. … Philadelphia is 7-1-2 vs. the Southeast, losing 2-1 to the Lightning on Nov. 8. … Tampa Bay's four wins and 15 points at home (4-7-7) are league lows. … The Flyers entered Wednesday with the league's second-best power play, 26.7 percent, and a league-best 13 short-handed goals.

  4. Bucs journal: Dirk Koetter says Vernon Hargreaves needs to improve


    TAMPA — The Bucs now rank 31st in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 301 yards per game in their 2-3 start, and coach Dirk Koetter was asked Monday how concerned he is with the play of second-year CB Vernon Hargreaves.

    Ryan Fitzpatrick, throwing an incompletion under pressure after replacing injured Jameis Winston against the Cardinals,  would start this Sunday in Buffalo if Winston’s shoulder is still bothering him.
