Stamkos NHL's top February star

Stamkos named league's top star for February

Lightning center Steven Stamkos, with 10 goals and 10 assists in 14 games, was named the NHL's No. 1 star for February. Stamkos had goals in six straight games from Feb. 16-26, the league's longest such streak this season, and ended the month on an eight-game points streak. Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby, with 18 assists and 24 points in 14 games, was the No. 2 star. Chicago goaltender Ray Emery, who was 7-0-0 with a 1.66 goals-against average and .941 save percentage in eight games, was the third star. Stamkos, 23, in his fifth season, all with Tampa Bay, also was the No. 1 star in November 2010. Damian Cristodero, Times staff writer
