Downie sidelined with ankle sprain
The Lightning's injury woes continued Friday with the announcement Steve Downie will be out indefinitely with a high right ankle sprain sustained Thursday against the Bruins.
Johan Harju was called up from AHL Norfolk.
Downie, a right wing with three goals and 15 points in 23 games, is the muscle and grinding energy of the top line with center Steven Stamkos and Marty St. Louis. It originally was believed Downie might have broken his ankle when hit by a second-period shot.
It has been quite a stretch for Tampa Bay. With injuries to left wing Simon Gagne, out 18 games with a neck problem, and captain Vinny Lecavalier, out 11 games and perhaps another two weeks after knuckle surgery, the team has not had its top two lines together since Oct. 21.
