BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rookie star Jack Eichel's hustling unassisted goal gave Dan Bylsma an eye-catching highlight from his first victory as Sabres coach.
"That will be one that we will pull out and watch again," Bylsma said Monday after Buffalo beat Columbus 4-2.
Eichel, the former Boston University player selected No. 2 overall in the June draft, bodied off Boone Jenner in a loose-puck battle, wheeled to his forehand and ripped a shot over goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to give Buffalo a 3-1 lead at 9:21 of the third period.
Game highlights: John Tavares had a power-play goal and two assists as the Islanders earned their first win in their new Brooklyn home, 4-2 over the Jets. … Michael Neuvirth stopped 31 shots to lead the host Flyers past the Panthers 1-0.
Around the league: Wild assistant Darryl Sydor was sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to driving drunk this summer. In a plea deal, a judge gave Sydor, a defenseman with the Lightning's 2004 Stanley Cup team, 60 days in jail to be served in installments over four years. … Kings forward Dwight King will miss at least two months after having surgery on his broken foot.
