Baffling lack of college love for Cambridge Christian’s Jaylin Jackson

One of the best quarterbacks in the state — in any classification on any level — appears to be Cambridge Christian senior Jaylin Jackson.

As in past years, Jackson has been nothing short of devastating in 2017, completing 115 of 195 passes for 2,236 yards, 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also has rushed 113 times for 509 yards and nine touchdowns.

But Jackson still has received no firm offers from colleges to play quarterback, perhaps because at 5-foot-9 they believe he isn’t tall enough.

"It’s very frustrating for me because I totally believe he can play quarterback at the next level," Cambridge coach Bob Dare said. "He has an incredibly strong arm and he can throw it touch and tremendous accuracy. Then when he needs to, he can pull it down and take off.

"He is without a doubt the most dynamic player I’ve ever had and I think that’s saying something because I’ve been doing this 40 years."

On Friday, Jackson will lead the Lancers (7-2) against Southwest Florida Christian (4-3) in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
