Region football: Baker County 34, Nature Coast 7

For much of the year, Nature Coast was struggling to transition to a new coaching staff. With a couple big wins to wrap up the regular-season schedule, the Sharks seemed to be peaking at the right time.

A nearly three-hour trip to Baker County would deflate most teams, especially when lined up to play against the top-seeded Wildcats. The home team controlled from the start in a 34-7 victory on Friday night in the Class 5A region quarterfinals.

Following a three-and-out on the opening drive, Nature Coast (7-3) was immediately put on its heels. Baker County (10-1) struck on a 17-yard touchdown pass from quarterback John Green to Lee Graham. It was the first of three touchdown passes for Green.

Baker County running back Josh Haygood added two touchdown runs, and the Wildcats led 34-0 in the fourth quarter. It was a 14-yard pass by sophomore quarterback Fabian Burnett to senior tight end Willie Coffey that prevented a shutout for the Sharks.
