    Mitchell freshman Nick Gabrelcik was in contention after the first round of the Class 2A state golf tournament in Howey-in-Hills. Gabrelcik shot 1-over 73 on the Mission Inn and Resort's El Campeon Course for sixth place Tuesday.

    Tampa Prep freshman Lilly Berry and Cambridge Christian sophomore Latanna Stone and senior Ashley Zagers placed in the top 10 after Saturday's second round of the Class A state tournament in Howey-in-the-Hills.

    HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS — Give Plant's boys golf team a resounding standing ovation, because on Wednesday they pulled off what no boys golf team from Hillsborough County has done in 46 years.

    The Panthers won a state team title.

  5. Region golf: Plant boys, St. Petersburg girls win


    EAST LAKE — Plant had a pretty simple team strategy for Monday's Class 3A, Region 4 tournament at Lansbrook Golf Club: Keep the driver in the bag and the ball in the fairway. That strategy worked on a day when scores were high.

  7. District golf: Cambridge Christian takes A-13 girls title


    TAMPA — Into the wind from almost 150 yards — and tied for the lead — Cambridge Christian senior Ashley Zagers took aim at the par-4, 18th hole pin Tuesday afternoon at Westchase Golf Club.

    SEMINOLE — With each tee shot, St. Petersburg's Meredith Kiernan hit golf balls that settled safely in the fairway. That made putting for par easier during Tuesday's Class 3A, District 12 girls tournament at Seminole Lake Country Club.

    ZEPHYRHILLS — The Sunlake boys and Land O'Lakes girls defended their titles in the Class 2A, District 5 tournaments Tuesday at Silverado. Both teams advance to the regionals where they each finished second last season.
