  1. Cross country takes the lead over soccer for Riverview's Alyssa Hendrix


    LITHIA — Alyssa Hendrix didn't know anything about cross country.

    LITHIA - Riverview sophomore Alyssa Hendrix breezes through a recent training at Sydney Dover Trails just outside Brandon. Hendrix finished third at the 2016 Class 4A state cross country meet in 18 minutes, 33 seconds. This year her goal is to break 18 minutes in a 5K, a feat that will help further solidify her as one of the best high school runners in the state. Taken 5-7-17 by Scott Purks

    DELAND — The slimmest of margins separated Berkeley Prep and Melbourne West Shore on Thursday afternoon on a sun-splashed soccer field at Stetson University.

    LITHIA — The speed and skill of Oviedo's girls soccer team was at full throttle during Friday's Class 5A state semifinal, and at several key moments it was too much for Newsome to defend.

    LITHIA - Newsome sophomore Sophie Shrader, who has been a relative scoring machine through the season with 36 goals, was held scoreless in the Class 5A state semifinal Friday night against Oviedo.     LAND O'LAKES — For the past three weeks, ever since the postseason started, Land O'Lakes has been practicing penalty kicks. Gators' coach Vicky King thought her team was ready should it come to it, but she found out Friday night against Jacksonville Stanton that there is no way to simulate the pressure.

    TRINITY — Both Class 4A state semifinalists survived penalty-kick thrillers to advance to Friday's match, but St. Johns Creekside controlled the midfield and stymied host Mitchell 4-1.
