Jagr passes Yzerman

NEWARK, N.J. — Jaromir Jagr scored his 693rd career goal, surpassing Hall of Famer and current Lightning generl manager Steve Yzerman for sole possession of eighth place all time, and the Devils beat the Senators 5-2 Wednesday night.

Jagr is one goal behind seventh-place Mark Messier.

Stephen Gionta scored a shorthanded goal during his first shift for the Devils after an 11-game absence because of an ankle injury.

Martin Brodeur won his 10th game of the year.

Malkin out: Penguins center Evgeni Malkin sat out against the Rangers, missing a second straight game because of a left leg injury. He is expected to sit out tonight against Minnesota, coach Dan Bylsma said. Malkin, third in the NHL with 41 points, was injured at Detroit on Saturday. He lost his balance and his left skate rammed the boards.

Around the league: Blues forward Alexander Steen, 29, who is having a career season, agreed to a three-year, $17.4 million extension. Steen is among the league leaders in most major categories and he and the Kings' Anze Kopitar are the only forwards averaging over 15 minutes of even-strength time, two minutes of short-handed time and three minutes on the power play. … The league suspended Penguins defenseman Deryk Engelland for five games without pay for a check to the head of Detroit's Justin Abdelkader. He will lose $14,530. … The Blue Jackets put defenseman Dalton Prout on injured reserve retroactive to Monday because of an upper-body injury that will likely sideline him two to three weeks. … Wild goalie Josh Harding went on injured reserve to adjust his multiple sclerosis medication.
