Jay Gruden, brother of former Bucs coach Jon Gruden, has been named head coach of the United Football League's Florida Tuskers.
Gruden served as the Tuskers' offensive coordinator last season, when they went 6-1 and advanced to the league championship game.
He replaces Jim Haslett, who left to become defensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins.
"I am honored to take on the role of head coach of the Florida Tuskers and grateful to the UFL for this opportunity," Gruden said in a news release. "Our first season was a great success. Coach Haslett created a solid foundation that the team can continue to build upon.
"I am proud of the way Orlando has embraced the Tuskers' dedicated players and coaches and I am excited to get to work preparing for season two."
The Tuskers play their home games at Orlando's Citrus Bowl and Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Under Gruden's guidance, Tuskers quarterback Brooks Bollinger led the league in passing yards (1,825) and touchdowns (16) and was named Player of the Year.
Prior to coaching in the UFL, Gruden spent 17 seasons in the Arena Football League as a player and coach. He also worked as an offensive assistant under his brother with the Bucs, including the 2002 Super Bowl championship squad.
