Nats say Strasburg won't miss start

WASHINGTON — The Nationals are hopeful RHP Stephen Strasburg will make his next scheduled start despite exiting Sunday's outing after two innings with pain in his forearm.

Strasburg met with team doctors but did not have an MRI exam, manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday. A team spokesman later told reporters that Strasburg was diagnosed with a nerve impingement that is no longer a problem, without providing further details.

"The doctor said he's doing fine. Hoping he'll progress enough to make the next start," Baker said.

After Sunday's start at Arizona, Strasburg described the problem as slight "achiness" in his forearm and said the early exit was a precaution. He is set to start Friday against the Rockies.

Brewers boost bullpen

The Brewers acquired White Sox RH reliever Anthony Swarzak for minor-league 3B/OF Ryan Cordell. Swarzak, 31, has a 2.23 ERA with 52 strikeouts and 13 walks in 481/3 innings this season. He's expected to be the primary setup man for RHP Corey Knebel.

A run-scoring triple play (really)

Todd Frazier had a memorable first home at-bat for the Yankees, and not in a good way. Frazier, acquired last week from the White Sox, came up with the bases loaded in the second inning against Reds RHP Luis Castillo and hit a bouncer to shortstop. The Reds turned two, then Didi Gregorius, who was on second, got stuck in a rundown and was tagged out for a triple play as Matt Holliday scored from third.

Numbers of the day

4 Hit batters by Cubs RHP John Lackey against the White Sox, most by a Cubs pitcher in a game since Moe Drabowsky hit four in 1957.

69 Wins through 100 games by the Dodgers, making them the sixth team in the expansion era to do so. Two of the previous five (1984 Tigers, 1998 Yankees) won the World Series.

Extras

. The Cardinals placed OF Dexter Fowler on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left forearm.
