Regulations Gulf SNook closure arrives A reminder to anglers that snook season in the gulf will close Thursday and remain closed through August. During that time it is illegal to possess a snook of any length. The season will reopen in September and remain open until December. Snook season remains open through May in the Atlantic. FISHING All-release tarpon event not far off The 74th annual Suncoast Tarpon Roundup, which will be an all-release event for the first time, starts May 24. There are several divisions, including regular, junior, women, landlubber, seniors, husband/wife, adult/junior and doubles. For registration information, go to www.suncoasttarponroundup.org. Birding Don't intrude on nesting birds The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission wants to remind beachgoers to keep their distance from nesting shorebirds. Try to stay at least 300 feet away to avoid agitating them. If birds are scared away from their nests, they likely will not return, which spells doom for the colony left behind.
