Snook, reds holding in sheltered areas

What's hot: Winds from various tropical weather systems require destination adjustments. Snook and redfish have been feeding aggressively in sheltered areas such as bayous, creeks and residential canals. Snook are already transitioning away from their summertime spawning areas and occupying these areas in normal weather conditions. Given the weather, they are stacking in these areas. Redfish just want a place out of the wind, so they're in the same spots as the snook.

Targeting tips: If you are after snook, try entrances to bayous and canals at the start of an outgoing tide. If you see an abundance of small- to medium-sized mullet, you will probably find snook. Most often your best results will be just after sunrise or late afternoon. For redfish, locate schools of glass minnows or sardines that are piled up against mangrove shorelines or docks.
