Captain's Corner: Bait is on the flats

What's hot: Strong east winds have made it feel like summer. Fishing is phenomenal because the bait has made its way onto the flats. Kingfish are around in good numbers and tarpon are being caught at all the main bridges. There are nice schools of redfish around Fort De Soto, South Tampa Bay and Weedon Island. The reds are definitely mixed in with the big schools of mullet. The bite has been better on the slack and slow outgoing tide. Snook have been more aggressive in the late morning and afternoon.
