Captain's Corner: Fall weather brings strong fishing

What's hot: Now that fall is officially here, we are entering a great time of year for fishing in the bay area. Although recent rains have kept most sane anglers in port, fishing had been solid and should get good again in a few days. Redfish seem to be almost everywhere on the flats; from upper Tampa Bay all the way to Pinellas Point. The reds are very cooperative now and should continue to be until it gets cold.

What will be hot: The first major cold front of the season typically comes barreling through our area the week before Halloween, dropping air and water temperatures dramatically. When that happens, kingfish return on their seasonal migration.

Tip: Rainy days are a good time to oil reels, organize tackle boxes, repair cast nets or fix the small things you have been putting aside. Take advantage of the good fishing ahead. Being prepared and completely functional helps eliminate frustration during outings.
