Not so hot: Inshore and offshore areas are still being adversely affected by unseasonably chilly water temperatures.
Bottom fishing: We fished in 100 feet of water a week ago and found the bite to be difficult to nonexistent. After hitting five or six prime hard-bottom areas with hardly a strike, we sent two divers down. They reported gag grouper and red snapper everywhere and small amberjack swarming below. The bottom temperature was 54 degrees, and the fish simply refused to bite.
Inshore: Shallow inshore waters have begun to warm a little. Last week we caught our first Spanish mackerel near Tarpon Springs, a sign that the migration is not far away.
