What's hot: Trout has been consistent in southern Pinellas, especially on grass flats in 3-4 feet. Go to roll-off edges where shallow grass tapers off into deeper sand for slot-sized fish. Larger trout can be found shallower, hanging in scattered sandy potholes.
Tips: Pompano have been a welcomed bycatch. They often skip on the surface when spooked, giving away their location. Hop a jig along the bottom.
Tackle: Soft-body plastic jigs work for both with an eighth-ounce or quarter-ounce jig head.
