What's hot: Sheepshead have been hot during the past few weeks. Fish in deep water with good structures such as rock piles, old docks and oyster mounds. It seems with each passing front, larger fish are showing up. Most of the ones I caught have been in the slot but on the small side, with a few 3-4 pounders.
Tactics: Use 14-pound fluorocarbon leader with split shots, a No. 4 circle hook and shrimp for bait. Depending on the strength of the current, add or take away weights. Use just enough to get the bait into the strike zone. Chumming with pieces of shrimp will help draw them in.
Tips: One trick to hooking fish I tell clients is pretty simple. While they nibble, watch the rod tip. If it gets a deeper bend, pull up and reel. If the fish is not there, drop it right back down.
