Bottom fishing: We have been grouper fishing at depths of 40 feet this past week with success. Mixed in with smaller fish are some hefty gag groupers. The keeper gags have been averaging 8 pounds at this depth.
Special catch: Numerous other reef fish have been available. Sea bass have been mixed in with the grouper. These fish don't grow more than a couple of pounds but are quite delicious.
Extra bonus: Key West grunts have been plentiful, too. These small reef fish are always ready to eat a piece of squid. The grunts are so aggressive they will swarm the baits in large numbers, allowing a No. 2 hook rig to be employed.
