Captain's Corner: Lots of options to target

What's hot: From the Skyway to the Little Manatee, the fishing is awesome, especially around cold fronts. Trout has been great around Fort De Soto and Tierra Verde. Last week, two bigger than 30 inches came to the boat. Live greenbacks under a cork just above the grass has worked well. Redfish has been steady from Cockroach Bay south to the Skyway. They have been scattered, but drift fishing or running a trolling motor works.

What else: Black drum are feasting on shrimp. Among artificials, the Gulp Shrimp in new penny is almost guaranteed to entice. Snook are heating up on the flats and estuaries. On the strongest parts of the tide, we have caught several 30- to 40-inchers. Bishops Harbor and Cockroach Bay have been excellent for linesiders.
