What's hot: On a recent offshore grouper trip, a customer lost her grip on a fishing rod and it went to the bottom. We were in fairly shallow water, so recovery was easy. I scheduled a dive trip with friends the next day. It was an enlightening experience as the divers found not only the fishing rod, but a large school of mangrove snapper covering the bottom. This find was good news, as we hadn't been catching many mangrove snapper this season.
Tips: Summer mangrove snapper fishing is generally good during full-moon events. However, they can still be caught at other times. Light tackle is usually the best way to get the keen-eyed snapper to take a hooked bait. Just hang on to your fishing rod.
