Captain's Corner: Schools show up at late-summer hot spots

Late-summer flats fishing is picking up from Tarpon Springs to Bayport.

Redfish: Redfish are starting to school up around Anclote Key, Sand Bay and Salt Springs. They are moving up on the oyster bars on the incoming tides.

Snook: Snook are starting to move to their fall and winter homes. Look near the mouths of creeks, rivers and deepwater canal systems. Snook season is closed for the fall.

Trout: Trout have been around the larger inlands from Clearwater to the north sandbar at Anclote Key. Look for large sand holes with thick grass around the edges.

Best baits: The best baits have been large greenback, small pinfish and shad. You can catch these game fish on all types of artificial baits.

Mike Manning runs Action Fishing Adventures out of Tarpon Springs. Call him toll-free at 1-800-644-5940.
