Captain's Corner: Snook fishing heats up at night during summer

What's hot: During the summer months, beat the heat by fishing at night. In most cases, you can fish the same areas you frequent during daylight hours. Snook action is red-hot during the summer at night, especially in passes, around docks with lights and most bridges. Look for current; snook are lazy predators that want to sit and wait for an easy meal.

Tips: Some local areas to try are Hurricane Pass, Clearwater Pass and the north end of Anclote Key. You can use all types of bait, including artificials like plastic jigs, crank baits and topwater baits. Popular live baits are large shrimp, large whitebait and finger mullet. There are plenty of bridges to fish from such as Clearwater, Sand Key and the bridges on the causeway going to Honeymoon Island. Check out Gulf Harbors, Sea Pines and Hernando Beach residential canals.
