What's hot: Snook season is set to reopen Sept. 1 after a closure that began in January 2010 following from one of the coldest winters and largest snook kills the state has seen. Snook stocks are doing better.
Tip: Around the Tampa Bay area, look for snook out on the flats, such as the south shore from Apollo Beach to Joe's Island and from the Fort De Soto area to the upper bay. This time of the year I look for snook in the pot holes on the lower tides and as the tide moves in I start moving up toward the mangroves.
