What's hot: Spanish mackerel have pushed well inside the bay and, as it warms up, it will get better. Light monofilament leader, ⅛-ounce jig heads and soft rubber tails will tilt the scales in their favor most of the time. When using artificials for mackerel, a small hard-bodied plug, feathered jigs or spoons work better and a short length of light single strand wire leader can help level the playing field.
Best of the rest: Bottom fishing the edges of the ships channel has remained consistent when the weather allows.
