Captain's Corner: Stone crab season begins in Florida

What's good: Stone crab season opened Thursday, and it's looking like a good year. Dan Semmons brought in a 4½-inch bruiser claw and said he filled his 1 gallon limit easily. The weekend storm should make the crabs crawl and replenish many sites quickly.

Seminar: I'm teaching a free seminar, spearfishing for beginners, on Tuesday at Mac's Sports in Clearwater and showing spearfishing videos on scuba and free diving. Reservations are required. Call (727) 442-9931.

Good show: Check out this weekend's Tampa Bay Boat Show at the Fairgrounds. I'm presenting video and slides on shipwrecks of the gulf, a diver's perspective.

Chad Carney teaches diving and spearfishing and can be reached at or (727) 423-7775
