Captain's Corner: Weather patterns make fishing challenging

What's hot: The weather has been interesting the past two weeks. Extremely warm and cool patterns have been present, causing many trips to be canceled or unpleasant due to high seas. The most recent cool blast should make conditions pleasant. Fishing has been good on the days we can venture west. Red grouper fishing has been steady at numerous depths.

Tips: Also available at deeper spots are large bait schools, allowing you to bottom fish and bait fish at the same time. We'll target grouper until the bait schools show up under the boat, then break out the bait rigs and load up on Spanish sardines, blue runners and cigar minnows. These schools are always looking for anything to hide next to; our anchor line is the best structure available.
