Inshore event Benefits Hospital

The Florida Gulf Coast Center for Fishing Foundation will present a catch-and-release event Saturday to benefit St. Anthony's Hospital. The rules are simple: just catch, photograph and release your biggest snook, redfish and trout, add them up and greatest aggregate length is the winner. First-place prize is $2,500. For info, call (727) 825-1086.

Sailor set to buzz about Tampa Bay

Sailors from across the United States and Canada will race just off the Pier in downtown St. Petersburg today through Sunday in the National Hospice Regatta. The event features sonars and Ideal 18s, and benefits the local chapter of Suncoast Hospice. The action starts at 10 a.m.

Banquet to fund conservation group

The Florida Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association led the fight to save redfish, now one of the state's most important recreational species. Here's your chance to say thanks by buying tickets for the Tampa chapter's fundraising banquet on April 17 at the T. Pepin Hospitality Centre in Tampa. The event will feature dinner, and live and silent auctions that include chartered fishing trips to Costa Rica and Ireland. Call (850) 345-6227 or go to ccaflorida.org for information.

RF Steven Souza is always, shall we say, entertaining. In the second, he made an impressive running, leaping catch. In the seventh, he made either the worst dive for a ball a good 15 feet away or was trying for the best deke. In the eighth, he hit a massive homer.
