Paddle Across Tampa Bay honors Terry Tomalin

DOUGLAS R. CLIFFORD | Times

About 75 people took part in the first annual Paddle Across Tampa Bay in honor of late Tampa Bay Times outdoors editor Terry Tomalin on Sunday morning. Paddlers in canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards met at North Shore Park and paddled a 3.2-mile course into Coffee Pot Bayou. The paddle was originally scheduled to start at Picnic Island in Tampa, but high winds forced the move to North Shore Park. A ceremony honoring Tomalin, who died May 19, was held before the paddle. "We hope to make this a bi-annual event, one in the winter and one in the summer," co-organizer Tim Ramsberger said.
