Flyers win sixth straight in OT

PHILADELPHIA — Jakub Voracek scored with 8.6 seconds left in overtime after Wayne Simmonds had two goals in regulation, leading the Flyers to their sixth straight victory, 3-2 over the Panthers on Tuesday night.

Steve Mason made 42 saves to help the Flyers to their longest winning streak in five years. Mason won his fifth straight start.

Florida completed a six-game trip with a 1-5-0 record.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS: Taylor Hall scored a goal, set up a go-ahead goal by Kyle Palmieri and delivered a crushing check that knocked defenseman Philip Larsen out of the game to lift the host Devils over the Canucks 3-2. … Andrew Ladd scored in the second period and Jaroslav Halak stopped 36 shots to lead the Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Rangers at Barclays Center.

COACH CRITICIZES OVECHKIN: Alex Ovechkin's slashing minor in the second period of Monday night's game against the Sabres marked his fifth minor penalty in the Capitals' past three games. With Ovechkin leading the team in minor penalties with 11 and penalty minutes with 22, coach Barry Trotz has had enough. "Unacceptable," Trotz said. "He's the leader. He can't take those penalties.'' They talked Tuesday, and Ovechkin was apologetic, saying: "Obviously, I have to be on the ice and not in the penalty box." On Saturday night, Ovechkin slashed Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman, and Tampa Bay scored on the resulting power play. Trotz said he would cut Ovechkin's playing time if the problems continue.
