Chamberlain's football field will be named after Billy Turner.

The Hillsborough County school board passed a motion Tuesday afternoon to name the Chiefs' home field after its longtime coach, county athletic director Lanness Robinson confirmed.

Chamberlain first attempted to name its field after Turner before last season, but the motion was halted when the board said a coach can receive such an honor only after he is retired.

Turner retired in March as Hillsborough County's winningest active coach — he was 254-152 in his 38-year career, with 204 of those wins coming in his three decades as head coach at Chamberlain.

He led the Chiefs to the Class 5A state title in 2001. His 2008 team advanced to the Class 5A region final.

The stadium will still be John Adcock Stadium.

TC's Green favors Gators: For Tampa Catholic offensive tackle Chaz Green, last weekend's Friday Night Lights at the University of Florida was a unique opportunity to show what he could do against some of the top defensive end prospects in the nation.

"I think I held my own," Green said.

But Green's visit to Gainesville also re-emphasized the Gators as his favorite.

"It made me want to be there," Green said. "You saw how hard they practice just for 30 minutes. It showed you how great a program they have. They're still my favorite."

Green, who rated as the top offensive lineman at the Friday Night Lights event by Rivals.com, said he wants to make official visits to USC and Ohio State, but he used the weekend to tell the Gators they're still his favorite. "They definitely know where I stand," he said.

Alonso's Davis has favorite in Louisville: Alonso receiver Justen Davis has raised his recruiting stock over the summer, using the 7-on-7 circuit to draw raves for his ability to pluck passes out of the air (he was recently named by Rivals.com as one of the top players at this month's USF Sling 'n Shoot).

That attention could garner more scholarship offers for the 6-foot-2 wideout/cornerback — he owns offers from Division I schools Louisville, Toledo and FIU as well as Division I-AA's South Alabama, Towson and Delaware — but said Louisville is currently his favorite.

Davis had 40 receptions for 505 yards and two touchdowns last season in Alonso's spread attack. As a cornerback he made six interceptions.

East Bay starter transfers to Lennard: Former East Bay quarterback Fred Porter has transferred to Lennard, Longhorns coach George Edington said Tuesday.

Porter started last season as a sophomore, running East Bay's wishbone offense. He will be in a much different offense at Lennard, which runs the spread.

Porter was East Bay's second-leading rusher, running for 476 yards on 95 carries (5.01-yard average). He made just 41 total pass attempts last year.

"He's got a good arm though," Edington said.

The Longhorns are looking to replace Andrew Burdick, the school's only starting quarterback in its two-year varsity history. Burdick threw for 1,440 yards and 18 touchdowns (and nine interceptions) last year as a senior.
