On the Web: rankings

No. 3 Countryside softball is the highest-ranked county team in our bay area Batting Order, while CCC is No. 2 among baseball teams. Check out the rest of the rankings and sound off at highschool.tampabay.com.

Mustangs hire football coach

Northside Christian hired Andre Dobson as football coach. The announcement came via e-mail sent by Northside's administration to faculty and parents.

Dobson, a former player and coach at Evangel University, will start April 7. For the past three seasons, he coached at Monte Vista Christian in Watsonville, Calif., where he took over a program that lost 18 straight games. Last season, Dobson guided Monte Vista to the city championship.

Dobson replaces Bob Dare, who was dismissed as coach and vice principal/dean of students in February. Dare and the school reached a settlement two weeks ago.

Gibbs, Shorecrest shine at Disney

Austin Rembert won the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and took second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.50 seconds) to help Gibbs' boys finish fifth overall at the Disney Showcase last weekend.

Other county boys who won individual titles were Clearwater Central Catholic's Andrew LeBrecque in the 800 (2 minutes, 11.21 seconds), Pinellas Park's Andrew Solito in the pole vault (12 feet) and Calvary Christian's Joe Cathey in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:44.02).

Shorecrest's girls took eighth overall thanks to wins by Sarah Evans in the 1,600 (5:42.04) and Erin McClenathan in the pole vault (9-6). The Chargers' Samantha Specht was second in the long jump (16-8) and triple jump (35-6¼).

McClellan takes home hardware

Bay Point Middle's Hasheem McClellan won the 400 meters in the seventh- and eighth-grade division at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York. McClellan's time of 53.48 seconds was a meet record in his age group, according to club coach Garlynn Boyd. Countryside's Ryan Messmore and Lakewood's Paul Britten each competed in the 200 and 400 meters, finishing in the top 37.
