Bishop on local USL team

Former Land O'Lakes star Staci Bishop became one of the first players to sign with the Tampa Bay Hellenic, a first-year member of the United Soccer League's W-League to begin play at 2 p.m. Sunday against the Bradenton Athletics at Ed Radice Sports Complex. Bishop led the Gators to the 2003 Class 2A state title with 43 goals and 28 assists. She was an All-American at the University of Florida after she transferred from LSU.

Mr. and Miss River Ridge

The winners of this year's annual Mr. and Miss River Ridge event were senior Mike Mignone and sophomore Natalie Marenghi. Both won Sunshine Athletic Conference weightlifting titles and qualified for state.

Koslin steps down at Mitchell

Mitchell girls basketball coach Stephanie Koslin has resigned to spend more time with family. She gave birth to her first child just weeks before the 2006-07 season. Now with her second child of three months she wants to be sure not to miss those moments between mother and child.

Koslin coached the Mustangs six seasons, leading them to three district titles and a Sunshine Athletic Conference championship two seasons ago. The opening has been posted and assistant Jake Tavo is expected to apply with Koslin's endorsement.

Koslin said she hopes this is just a temporary break from coaching basketball and that she will return in a few years. Until then, she'll attend games and cheer for Mitchell. "It's a whole different job, this motherhood," Koslin said. "I'm going to be a big fan."

Wrestling honor

Hernando junior Max Morrill attended the Father Devin wrestling tournament in Oviedo last week and earned top honors in his 135-pound weight class. Morrill, a Class A state qualifier, helped the Leopards to a ninth-place finish at state.
